diy :: burlap & beautiful...

If you read my post about making the pine bow arrangement, you would know I had a hard time spending a decent chunk of change on an over the door wreath hanger. Also while at the store, I was picking up wire to hang the garland on our picket fence. I had every good intention of putting bows on the garland; I mean what is garland without bows?

However, my inner cheerleader got the best of me when I looked at the $6-$10 a pop price tag. Seven posts means nearly $70 on bows...how could I make these myself?

Having a past steeped in bow tying, I grabbed some 3 inch cranberry velvet outdoor ribbon for $2.99. I knew I could figure out something more economical; not to mention, the bows available for selection were not what I was looking for.

While laying out and tying a few trial bows, I decided I wanted to pull my Christmas theme in. Again, may I emphasize how helpful it is to have a congruent theme in your holiday decor. Out of my craft supplies comes the burlap. It added the perfect touch of volume and stability to the cranberry ribbon.

These ribbons were very simple; they are not event knotted or tied. Basically, you lay out a large loop with 2 tails and secure the center. First, I secured mine with twine for security, and then added the ribbon for a finishing touch. Garland wire will secure them to the fence posts. Thank you to the previous owner - there are already nail hooks!

Now to convince Brett to help me hang the garland...
