one room down...

As the moving process keeps rolling, the number of rooms seeming close to being put together seems closer to zero.

That is all but one, which may be my favorite room in the entire house. Trumpets please, the three season room!

Quite possibly the easiest to put together, since the built in seats were here when we moved in, Brett and I have enjoyed dinner, movies, and a glass of wine with friends since we have been married.

Our love for junk and remaking old things into new statement pieces is always an adventure. It has proven useful in decorating and furnishing the house already. While driving back from our big Green-mossy adventure {read about that adventure here}, we were on my way to my Grandma's house for tacos when Brett and I spotted a long skinny coffee table perched on the side of the road.

No for sale sign, next to where the trash would be...it was a solid wood item that needed some TLC. Up into the back of the truck she went right along side of the Green-mossy. Score! Off to Gramps and Grams' we went with our pile of junk furniture in the back.

To my Gramps' horror, he gave Brett a lecture about spending money and not being cheap. Despite my efforts to rescue Brett by saying I asked for the Big-mossy and the free coffee table, the lecture continued. Thanks Gramps for always looking out for me. :)

Needless to say, we were starting to look like Brett's beloved Beverly Hillbillies with all that 'treasure' in the back of the truck. May I also add that we had a box of antlers that we picked up at Brett's parents while moving his stuff out. The imaginary Dar on my left shoulder was secretly hoping the box was going to fly out of the back of the truck and distribute antlers all over the street, just so I could laugh at the scene of antler racks disturbing traffic. {I have also been secretly scheming to white wash them and turn them in to something awesome - other than the oak & leather mounted pieces of glory that they are...}

This coffee table also proved to be a coloring book on the underside; when I flipped it over to tighten the legs it revealed one toddler's artwork in Crayola. I decided against painting over the crayon as a small reminder to let my kids express their creativity someday.

On went a coat of American Paint Company's chalk paint in 'Liberty'. This color Brett and I had purchased a sample of in order to test out the color for our dining room table. This little piece was the perfect candidate. After thinning the paint with a little water to allow for more brush strokes to be seen, it was covered in a matter of minutes and drying. I decided to go with only one coat, so that when the clear wax went on, it make the brush strokes pop and gave it a more distressed/weathered wood look.

Overall, the little table is the perfect accent piece to the room, not to mention completely functional for setting pitchers of sangria and lemonade on. However, to our dismay this was not the color we would be donning for the dining table. In Brett's words, it looks like the Statue of Liberty...ah hence the name. The color was much more green and less grey than we had anticipated.

Topped with my favorite vintage honeycomb quilt, a sign that Brett had purchased for me while I was still living in my loft and touches of phantom hydrangeas from our front yard {those vases were used as centerpieces at our wedding}, makes this room the perfect retreat. I have even allowed my befriended stray kitty {whom has been named Simone-Kitty, obviously she's French} to wander in and enjoy the space with us.

  1. Dar & Brett, Wow you two must been busy!! Everything really looks nice, except for that CAT! haha. Gramps loves to tell everybody how to spend/not spend there money, but he really doesn't have room to talk. He can be soooo tight, unless it is for fishing or hunting stuff. Waiting for the invite now.
